I remember that book fondly and it helped me to create lots of patches. My parents helped me to buy the DX7 when it was first released and I remember later buying a really thick book of "how to" program certain types of instruments on the DX7.
That would require I know what I'm looking for though I'm reminded of the days back when the Yamaha DX7 first came out in the 80's. I suppose what I was concerned about in the beginning was making sure I could acquire patches should they be taken off the market and become difficult to find. I don't think I've seriously exhausted all of the patches I currently have collected thus far, so I think I'll take a seat and work with what I have. I think Saul's comment hit home a bit and caused me to pause and think a bit about my goals.
